Dr. Laura R
Veterinarian
Dr. Laura R, originally from western Newfoundland, brings decades of expertise and dedication to veterinary medicine. After graduating from veterinary school in 1996, she practiced companion animal medicine in St. John’s and Stephenville. Her passion for advancing veterinary science led her back to school in 2000, where she completed a residency in Anatomic pathology, becoming a Diplomate in 2004.
Following her certification, Dr. Laura R, worked as a pathologist at a busy diagnostic laboratory in Alberta before returning to Newfoundland. She served as a pathologist and administrator at the provincial lab until 2020, when she transitioned back to clinical practice, focusing on emergency medicine at the Veterinary Specialty Centre of Newfoundland and Labrador until late 2023.
Dr. Laura R, is a proud mother and shares her home with her son, a beloved dog, and three cherished cats. In her free time, she enjoys taking walks with her dog and diving into a good book. Her wealth of experience and compassionate approach make her a valued member of any veterinary team.

What’s your favorite animal and why?
Cats are my favorite! I admire their independence and love how transparent they are—always letting you know exactly how they feel. Their unique personalities make them endlessly fascinating companions.

If you could communicate with animals, what’s the first thing you’d ask them?
I’d ask them what they truly think of people. Understanding their perspective would be fascinating and could teach us so much about how to better care for and connect with them.

Can you share a pet care tip or trick that people might not know about?
Monitor your pet’s weight and body condition regularly and adjust their food portions accordingly. This ensures they stay healthy and maintain an ideal weight, supporting their overall well-being.

How do you approach difficult cases or diagnoses?
I approach difficult cases with a logical and methodical mindset. By carefully analyzing the situation and considering all possible factors, I strive to find the best solutions for each patient’s needs.

What advancements in veterinary medicine are you most excited about?
I’m particularly excited about the advancements in arthritis treatments, such as Librela and Solensia. These innovative therapies are improving the quality of life for pets by effectively managing pain and mobility issues, offering new hope for long-term comfort and care.
